Is True Christianity Growing?

Is true Christianity growing ? (as per the Harvard Study cited by the Family Research Council, whom by the way I love and support)

Or is true Christianity (i.e., those who believe the Bible fully, including salvation through the Christ of the Bible alone) shrinking? (as per the George Barna study cited by the Christian Post, whom by the way I love and support)

Surveys are swayed by the way that the questions are asked.

If they did a survey at your work or school, or in your neighborhood, and the question was asked: ‘If you’re a Christian please raise your hand’; in today’s America, most hands would go up.

What if the question was asked in a different way: ‘Do you believe that the Bible is correct in all of its teachings, most importantly the part that says that Jesus is the only door to salvation; and that without a saving faith in Jesus one cannot go to heaven?’ How many people in your life would raise their hand to that?

To be fair, we’d need to get a copy of both surveys to see how the questions were worded, and how the people contacted were chosen (to make sure they represent the entire population). But based on these conflicting conclusions, I suspect that George Barna and Harvard University would describe true Christianity differently. If that is the case, it means that the people who believe in Harvard’s ‘form’ of Christianity may indeed be growing. The million-dollar question is, is Harvard’s form of Christianity the same as true Biblical Christianity?

I wish for that to be the case. But I unfortunately doubt that Harvard and George Barna are using the same definitions. I want to believe Harvard with all of my heart; but I believe George Barna. I hope I’m wrong.

Regardless, until the last soul is reached for Jesus, we have plenty of work to do.

Matthew 9:37-38 “Then He [Jesus] said to His disciples, ‘The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.’”

Matthew 28:19-20 “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you, and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.’ Amen.”

We who are disciples of Christ have our marching orders. May we not cease until every last soul is won for Him.

With His Love,

Pastor Mark
